50 שנה חלפו מאז הקליטו הביטלס, באבי רואד, את התקליט
הראשון שלהם, עם הלהיט Love me do. מאז זרמו הרבה
הרבה סקס-סמים-ורוקנרול, אבל הלהקה נודעה גם כנושאת
דגל של תפיסת עולם ליברלית. "דמיינו לכם עולם בלי מלחמות",
"כל מה שאתם צריכים היא אהבה", וכו'. אלא שרק מעטים
יודעים שגם לביטלס היתה נקודה (אחת לפחות) של חולשה.
הנקודה הזאת הייתה שנאה "מסוימת" למהגרי עבודה מהודו
ופקיסטן שכבר אז החלו להציף את הבירה הבריטית.

הגירת העבודה נחשבת לאחד הנושאים היותר סבוכים של
המאה ה-21, אבל מפתיע לגלות שהביטלס, ובמיוחד פול
מקארטני, התייחסו אליה בשיר אולפן כמעט מחתרתי, שלא
נכלל מעולם באף אחד מאלבומיהם הידועים. הדעות

עשויות לעניין את מי שהתרגל לחשוב על הביטלס כעל אבירי
כבוד האדם וחירותו. הוא עשוי גם לעניין את מי שמאמין
בפתרון בעיות. ממלות השיר, הכוללות שמות מפורשים של
פוליטיקאים אנגליים, עולה שכבר לפני עשרות שנים הוסכם
שיש למצוא פתרון מושכל למצב העניינים. ימים חולפים
